Home Minister Balochistan, Mir Sarfaraz Ahmed Bugti awarded certificates to the newly appointed teachers under Balochistan Education Project in Dera Bugt. These teachers recently completed their 10 days training on ECE and basic teaching methodology. These teachers were hired through NTS with District Recruitment Committees on board. On the occasion, DC, DEO and other senior officials of Dera Bugti were present.


Wᴏʀʟᴅ Bᴀɴᴋ Mɪꜱꜱɪᴏɴ ᴛᴏ PMU Qᴜᴇᴛᴛᴀ

Senior Education Specialist-World Bank Pakistan, Ms. Umbreen Arif visited PMU Quetta this Monday. During her visit, Project Director Mr. Saidal Khan Luni and Section Heads apprised her about the progress of Balochistan Education Project. Ms. Umbreen Arif expressed satisfaction about the progress so far and called upon BEP team to expedite the pace of construction activities and share regular updates on the available fora. Discussion was held about planning for the expansion of the project activities further to include more schools and benefit more students.


Construction work is underway on Government Primary School Muhallah Hassan Raheja, Ab-e-gum District Kachi.

The school is currently operational in a transitional space provided by the community with more than 180 enrollment to date. Two female teachers have been hired for the school through NTS and trained on modern pedagogic techniques.


Balochistan Education Project and its Social Mobilization Implementing Partners (SMIPs)

Balochistan Education Project and its Social Mobilization Implementing Partners (SMIPs) have the routine task of engaging community at the field level for enrollment campaign, conflict resolution, Larger Community Meetings, PTSMC Trainings, resolution of issues pertaining to BEP schools etc. SMIPs have the larger role of closely working with community for social mobilization and addressing the issues at the micro-level.


Three different models of BEP Schools

Three different models of BEP Schools were carefully designed considering weather conditions and seismic patterns of different regions of Balochistan. These models are weather friendly and provide possibility for extension.


Government Girls Model High School Loralai

Program Director, Balochistan Education Project visited the under-construction building of Government Girls Model High School Loralai. During his visit, PD reviewed and supervised the construction and rehabilitation work of the school. A peculiar aspect of this school is that it is an abandoned building of the Session Court Loralai. The building was formally acquired from the Honourable High Court of Balochistan which is a display of the Court's trust in BEP, its reputation and contribution for education in the province. The school will be upgraded to Higher Secondary School with intermediate classes, accommodating a large number of girl students from the town and adjoining villages. The premises will be functionalised as a Model School in a week's time whereby locker rooms and prison cells of the Court will become classrooms for learning and education.


NTS Tests for EST & IT Teachers by BEP

Balochistan Education Project successfully conducted NTS screening tests today (Sunday, 14th May) for the positions of Elementary School Teachers for Math & Science and IT Teachers. A total of 1991 candidates appeared in the tests at designated centers for various districts/regions of Balochistan as mentioned below:

A Trained & Dedicated Teacher is Key for the Success & Sustainability of a School

This gifted teacher in a Government Primary School established under Balochistan Education Project in Noshki has developed low-cost and effective Teaching Learning Material (TLM) to teach Mathematics and Science to her students.
Though the school has been established in a temporary community-provided space yet the commitment of its teacher has not restricted her from imparting quality education to the children.
Under BEP, teachers are trained in Early Childhood Education and teaching methodologies through use of TLM.
The teacher has displayed and demonstrated an exemplary work on the walls of her classroom with low-cost/no-cost material. Such initiative by the teacher is an inspiration for her students and their learning outcomes.

Enrollment Campaign 2017

Under Balochistan Education Project, newly established primary schools are showing very encouraging results in terms of enrollment and it's increasing exponentially.

1. GPS Kulanchi Bazar Gwadar, Enrollment 220

2. GPS Hassanzai Baghbana Khuzdar, Enrollment 180

3. GPS Barkhan, Enrollment 150

Some of the contributing factors for this encouraging trend are:

i. Deployment of two female teachers recruited through NTS and trained in ECE, modern pedagogic teaching techniques and child psychology.

ii. Provision of Teaching Learning Material (TLM), furniture, books, school bags etc.

iii. Community-driven model of primary schools that ensures ownership by the community.

iv. Community mobilization through Parent Teacher School Management Committees (PTSMCs).


Enrollment Campaign 2017 & Opening New Schools

School Opening Ceremony of Girls Primary School New Kulanchi Bazar Gwadar was held under Balochistan Education Project today. The enrollment of this school has reached 210 within two months of opening. Deputy Commissioner Gwadar, Dr. Tufail Baloch donated 18,000 square feet of land for the expansion of the school. Keeping in view its potential, the school will be upgraded to Middle School in future.

Apart from DC Gwadar, the ceremony was attended by many other dignitaries including Program Director BEP Mr. Asfand Yar Khan, MPA Gwadar Mir Hammal Kalmati, District Chairman Gwadar Babo Gulab, DEO Gwadar Mr. Munir Nodezai, Head of local organization (Shadow) Mr. Gulzar Gichki and DDEO Gwadar Mr. Wahab Majeed.


Training of Newly Hired Teachers on ECE

75 teachers were trained in the 10-day extensive training of teachers on Early Childhood Education under Balochistan Education Project.

Teachers developed and displayed Child-friendly Learning Corners of Art, Mathematics, Science, domestic, library, language and literacy. The teachers also prepared academic calendars for 6 key learning areas of ECE.

Group work, role plays, demonstrations and various other activities were part of the training.


1st Annual Teachers' Conference TRC Pakistan

Theme: "Thinking Classrooms & Critical Thinkers"
Program Director BEP, Mr. Asfandiar Khan addressed the Opening Ceremony of Teachers’ Resource Centre (TRC) as keynote speaker.
The theme of the conference was "Thinking Classrooms & Critical Thinkers".
TRC is a research organization, dedicated to improving the standard of teachers in both government and private sector schools in Pakistan.
Balochistan Education Project has developed partnership with TRC Pakistan to build capacity of the newly appointed teachers recruited through NTS.


10-day Training of Newly Hired Teachers on ECE

Balochistan Education Project has kicked off a 10-day training of newly appointed teachers from 9 districts of Balochistan on Early Childhood Education (ECE) in Boys Scouts Quetta on 8th March, 2017. The training will cover latest pedagogic techniques in ECE and child development. The broader objective of the training is to enhance capacity of the newly hired teachers on ECE, child-friendly environment, ECE classroom management, lesson planning and use of low-cost/no-cost materials. The training will also ensure effective use of Teaching-Learning Material (TLM) provided by the project in its target schools. The training is based on ECE Curriculum of 2007 and being provided in collaboration with Provincial Institute for Teacher Education (PITE).


Encouraging Results from New Schools

Under Balochistan Education Project, academic session has commenced in 246 newly established primary schools, in both summer and winter zones. Around 342 female teachers have been taken on board through NTS, duly inducted by District Recruitment Committees (DRCs). Enrollment in the newly opened primary schools is very encouraging. In one of the schools, enrollment is as high as 200+ children. District Education Authorities (DEAs) have made provision of essential reading-writing material while teaching-learning material being provided by the project.


Government Girls Middle School Bashirabad, Nawan Killi Quetta

Government Girls Middle School Bashirabad, Nawan Killi Quetta is one of the 25 middle schools that will be upgraded from Middle to High under BEP. With an enrollment of more than 2000 girls in just 5 feeder schools, there is no High school in a radius of around 5 KMs. After successful mobilization, the community provided 10,000 sq feet of land for the school during a meeting attended by Program Director BEP Mr. Asfand Yar Khan, Additional IG Police Mr. Mujeeb Ur Rehman and community notables. Community Mobilisation is a powerful tool to influence communities for ownership and sustainability of schools.


Hiring of Female Teachers through NTS

A good teacher has a lasting impact on his/her students and ensures their retention rate. Balochistan Education Project is hiring female teachers through merit-based recruitment process (NTS) with specific focus on their proficiency in math and science. Capacity building and professional development is an integral part of the teachers' training program under the project. Knowledge of math, science and technology is key to the prospects of a child's success in the era of science. Under BEP project, Elementary Teachers in Mathematics, Science and IT subjects are recruited in Middle and High schools. Our students are actors of development and hope while good teachers are the builders of this hope.


Visit of World Bank Delegation

Ms. Keiko Miwa, Practice Manager, World Bank South Asian Region and Ms. Umbreen Arif, Senior Education Specialist, World Bank visited PMU Balochistan Education Project on 24th January, 2017. The delegation was given detailed presentation by Program Director BEP, Mr. Asfandiar Khan. The delegation discussed various aspects of the project and appreciated team regarding the progress and the pioneering initiatives introduced. Later, World Bank Mission met Secretary Secondary Education, Secretary Planning and Development and visited Performance Management Cell at Education Department.


Building Partnership and Discovering Avenues to Quality Education & Learning

Balochistan Education Project coordinated and facilitated a meeting about the European Union's Erasmus Mundus programme (tinyurl.com/352djzu) which aims to enhance quality in higher education through scholarships and academic co-operation between the EU and the rest of the world. Erasmus Mundus comprises of three actions: Joint programmes, Partnerships, Attractiveness projects. The Scholarships, funded by the EU, are awarded to students coming from both EU and non-EU countries after selection for Masters or Doctorate programs.
